We have prepared a detailed document detailing the history, aims and rationale behind this image archive project. This document is useful if you are interested in finding out how we went about constructing the archive. It is particularly useful for small museums that intend building their own online image archive. It details some of the decisions we had to make and why we made them.
What are the aims of the County Waterford Image Archive project?
Who is involved in the project?
This image management project was developed and is being administered by Waterford County Museum. The software for this project was developed and provided free of charge by Déise Design. Waterford County Library Service provide ongoing hosting facilities. Assistance was also provided by The Heritage Council Of Ireland, Waterford County Council IT Dept. & Fás.
Why do we need an image management system?
Waterford County Museum has an extensive collection of photographs. In addition we have a large collection of billheads, letterheads etc. which could also be stored electronically. Access to these photographs / billheads / letterheads for the general public is limited for reasons of conservation and staff resources.
Is the project only for the Dungarvan area?
Most definitely not!! We are interested in images from every part of County Waterford. We do not collect images relating to Waterford City. If you have a photograph or image of any part of County Waterford please see the Submit Photos section of this web site.
