We are interested in acquiring images from every part of County Waterford. However we do not collect images relating to Waterford City. If you wish to donate any historic photos, letterheads, sketches etc. to the County Waterford Image Archive we would be delighted to have them. The FAQ below answers most of the questions you might have. If your question isn't answered please feel free to email us or phone us on +353 (0)58 45960 .

What type of images are you collecting?
Historic photos, letterheads, sketches relating to County Waterford, Ireland. They can be images of people, events, places etc. We are also collecting company letterheads, advertising material, maps etc. relating to County Waterford. We do not collect images relating to Waterford City.

Typical images we are happy to accept:

  • A County Waterford sports club from the 1980's.
  • Men from the West Waterford Brigade I.R.A. pictured in Dublin.
  • A calendar produced for a County Waterford company in the 1930's.
  • A postcard of Tramore from 1913.

Do I have to give you the original image?
Ideally we would like to have the original image donated to the Waterford County Museum. If you feel unable to donate the original image to us that is fine. We can scan a high-resolution copy and return the original image to you. If you live abroad we will show you how to scan to the standard we are using in the project. You can then burn the image to CD or DVD and post it to us along with a completed donation document.

Who has copyright?
When you donate the image or a digital copy of the image to the County Waterford Image Archive we must fill out an image donation form. On this form you will be asked to indicate the level of copyright control you hand over to Waterford County Museum.

Will Waterford County Museum sell any of the images to a 3rd party?
On occasion Waterford County Museum receives requests for copies of an image or to reproduce an image in a publication. We will not sell any donated images to a 3rd party without the express permission of the donor. In general we look favourably on reproduction requests for images from community groups, non-profit organisations and academic publications. We look less favourably on strictly commercial ventures such as Heritage Calendars etc.

How do I donate my photograph / image to the archive?
