John Palliser, Explorer & Geographer

A portrait of John Palliser (January 29, 1817 -August 18, 1887) photographed at B. Fermanelli Studio, Rome. Palliser was an Irish-born geographer and explorer. Born in Comeragh, County Waterford, Ireland to Colonel Wray Palliser. From 1839 to 1863, John Palliser served in the military and became a Captain in the Waterford artillery. He was also Sheriff of Waterford. His first hunting expedition was in 1847 in the American West.
