Crashed German Heinkel Aeroplane Near Bonmahon

Early on the morning of 1 April 1941, a twin-engined Heinkel HE 111 belonging to the Erste Gruppe Kampfgeschwader Siebenundzwanzig, crippled after attacking a convoy of tankers in the Bristol Channel, crash-landed in a field in the townland of Ballyristeen. A group of men can be seen on top of the Heinkel. Note the Swastika on the fin of the aeroplane. This plane was from Kampfgeschwader "Boelcke" KG 27 , the plane codes were 1G+LH .The crew were Ernst Lorra (pilot) Heinz Grau (navigator) Geroge Fleischmann (observer) Ernst Genzle (flight engineer) and Otto Jaeger (gunner).
