Temperance Hall At Viaduct Arches, Kilmacthomas
The cottage in the foreground was the Temperance Hall and was used for billiards by the local men during the forties & fifties, and also for concerts. Johnny Joy stored his steam engines in a shed at the right of building. Goods train in background travelling towards the Viaduct at Kilmacthomas on the Waterford / Mallow Railway Line. The image was taken on the final week of the railway's operation. The final train ran on Saturday, 25 March, 1967. The structure on left side of hall with two openings was used as lookout post by the Local Defence Force (L.D.F.) & the Local Security Force (L.S.F.) during the emergency years 1939-1945.
